It just so happened that at the time that I arrived there, there was a cyclone. We had the offer not to go in because it was so dangerous, but I chose to go in. And I really wanted to go in … And there was a sea of water everywhere … I remember that utter poverty and that utter helplessness of the people, and thinking, “This is the same country I live in”… And somehow everything I was studying started to make sense. The world started to come together for me … And I started leaning very, very hard in the direction of becoming a full-time development worker, but I had an artistic side also, and I wanted to see that satisfied. That is when I decided that documentary filmmaking would be the best way to connect them.
